City Break: Kraków – Wieliczka Salt Mine sightseeing (3 days / 2 nights)

We invite you to a unique weekend trip to the Wieliczka Salt Mine – one of the most valuable monuments in Poland, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will see extraordinary underground chambers, salt lakes, and the famous St. Kinga’s Chapel, carved entirely out of salt. You will learn about the history of salt mining in Wieliczka, traditional extraction methods, and the unique character of the underground workings that captivate visitors from all over the world.

This is an ideal short trip for families with children, young people, and seniors – the sightseeing routes are adapted to different age groups, and the underground world of the Wieliczka Salt Mine offers a unique adventure as well as an engaging and educational experience through fun. There will also be delicious food, as well as time for rest and spending quality time together.

Tourist Route:

The Tourist Route is the most popular part of the mine tour, leading through an extraordinary underground world carved out of salt. Along the route, visitors can admire vast salt chambers, underground lakes, and one of the main highlights – the Chapel of St. Kinga, known for its remarkable decoration and impressive scale.

Visitors also learn about the history of salt mining – they can see old tools and equipment used by miners and discover how salt was once extracted and transported. The route is educational while also showcasing the most representative areas of the mine.

The tour is suitable for visitors of all ages and does not require special physical fitness, although participants should be prepared to descend and ascend over 800 stairs.

Family Tour – “Following the Legends”

“Following the Legends” is a family-friendly version of the tour that combines the classic tourist route with storytelling and puzzles. Participants embark on a journey through the underground world, discovering legends and stories connected to the mine.

During the visit, guests explore the most beautiful chambers, salt lakes, and the Chapel of St. Kinga. A key element of the program are stories about the mine’s spirit – the Skarbnik (the mine guardian), who introduces visitors to a world of legends and mysteries.

The route is designed for families and children, making the tour an engaging, adventure-style experience.

  • Start: Daniłowicz Shaft / Bistro Posolone

  • Duration: approx. 2.5 hours

  • Length: approx. 3.5 km

  • Temperature: 17–18°C

  • Age: from 5 years (no upper limit)

Facilities:

  • children under 4 years old enter free of charge

  • younger children may participate in a carrier or sling

  • snack and drink areas available during the tour

  • underground restaurant equipped with high chairs

  • changing tables available both on the surface and near the underground restaurant

  • toilets available both on the surface and along the route

  • luggage storage available near Daniłowicz Shaft

Miners’ Route

The Miners’ Route is an active form of sightseeing where participants take on the role of young mining apprentices. Instead of a traditional tour, visitors take part in a real underground adventure with tasks and teamwork.

Participants descend into areas of the mine not normally accessible to tourists, where under the supervision of a guide they complete mining-inspired tasks such as measurements, map work, and simple technical activities. The experience is carried out in protective equipment.

At the end, each participant receives a certificate confirming participation in the mining expedition.

  • Start: Regis Shaft

  • Duration: 2–3 hours

  • Length: approx. 2 km

  • Temperature: 14–16°C

  • Age: from 10 years

Graduation Tower (Brine Tower)

The graduation tower is a place for relaxation and natural inhalation of air saturated with brine. Walking around the structure helps cleanse the respiratory tract, relax, and improve well-being.

It is especially recommended for people exposed to smog, allergy sufferers, and residents of large cities. A visit may support body regeneration and provide relaxation.

  • Location: St. Kinga Park

  • Recommended stay: approx. 30 minutes

  • Age: no restrictions
